Task Force Buffalo officially transferred authority to Task Force Tiger during a ceremony June 5 at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.
Task Force Buffalo, comprised of Soldiers from 317th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (light Infantry), from Fort Polk, La., and now Task Force Tiger, 1st Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, from Fort Hood, Texas, plays a key role in base security operations at Bagram Airfield. The Task Force is comprised of U.S. Soldiers, Marines Airmen, Soldiers from Georgia and Czech Republic, and is partnered with the local Afghan security forces.

Davis and Command Sgt. Maj. Robert M. Preusser, 1st Battalion command team, uncased their colors to signify the start of their mission.
“As I look back over the last nine months I can’t be more proud of the memories of Task Force Buffalo and the effects you’ve accomplished here in securing Bagram Airfield and obstructing the enemy in Parwan Province,” McCulley said. “I would like to thank [Maj. Gen. Jeffrey L. Bannister, Bagram Airfield Commander, and his staff] for your strong mentorship and leadership. It’s truly been an honor to work under you as both the commander of 317th and Task Force Buffalo.”
McCulley returned to his seat, pausing momentarily to accept a handshake from Col. Guy Jones, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division Commander. Davis stepped up to the podium, thanked the leaders and other attendees, and then discussed the way forward.
“During the last nine months Task Force Buffalo has made an incredible impact in securing the Bagram GDA as well as Parwan Province,” Davis said. “The Buffalo team has set the conditions for Task Force Tiger, and I feel confident that U.S. and coalition Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen of Task Force Tiger as we stand ready to secure Bagram Airfield and continue the great work Task Force Buffalo has accomplished.”
Both McCulley and Davis thanked the Afghan Police and Security Forces for their dedication and support. McCulley also included a thank you to his Afghan partners for their friendship and leadership.
Preusser said McCully’s team played a significant role in a 73 percent decrease in attacks since last year, and Davis said his team will continue to contribute and improve upon those results.
