CINCU, Romania -- Resolute Castle 2016 is a unique year for Operation Atlantic Resolve - a United States Army and Europe-led multinational operation that strengthens the United States partnership with NATO allies.
Under the command of the 194th Engineer Brigade and USAREUR, the 877th Engineer Battalion, located at Cincu Training Range in Romania, is partnering with units from the Romanian Land Forces from the 10th Engineer Brigade in operations spanning from site improvement construction, military police training and local humanitarian projects.
Resolute Castle 2016 includes support from a multi-component task force comprised of Active Duty, Reserve, Navy Seabees, and multi-state National Guard forces. Through these partnerships the ability to work together with coalition forces are fortified while working together to improve training sites, military posts and communities in Romania, Estonia, Bulgaria, and Hungary.
On May 18, 2016, Lt. Col. Shawn Arnold, 877th Engineer Battalion Commander, Cpt. Timothy Saccucci, Chaplain, Cpt. Ryan Black, Public Affairs Officer, Sgt. Jamie Griffin, MWR Director and Personnel Sgt., 877th EN BN, Alabama National Guard, and Romanian Land Forces counterpart 1st Lt. Dan Georgescu, Rotation 1 Executive Officer, 3rd Engineer Battalion met with Cincu Primary School officials Ms. Cismas Adina and Mr. Dragos Cornateanu. The purpose of the meeting was to establish a loyal relationship with school officials in order to discuss the developmental possibilities for enhancing the learning, teaching and social environment within the school.
Over the next several months, U.S. Army Europe, Alabama Army National Guard and Romanian Land Forces plan to deliver support for renovation and developmental projects and resources within local elementary and primary schools located in the neighboring villages of Cincu Training Range. These philanthropic, military funded efforts will provide underdeveloped communities the tools they need to offer the children and teachers educational progression that every child deserves for their future.
During the Cincu Primary School visit, Lt. Col. Arnold delivered a speech in the native Romanian language to the children, teachers and officials of Cincu Primary School, [translation] “It is a great honor to be your partners and to work together for the development of your children’s future. Through this friendship we are building, the destinies of our Nations will follow the same path. We build together!”
In the meantime, fundraising contributions that will be collected in the United States over the next few months will offer the local schools and communities the resources they need to start the next school year in the Fall of 2016.
Cincu, Romania is located in Brasov County, the northern-Transylvania region of the country, in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Cincu has come a long way in its efforts to modernize its capabilities for advanced military training and community outreach capabilities. The intent for military operations at Cincu Training Range is for all militaries involved, as well as the local community, benefitting from the extensive infrastructure projects and civilian contracting and community improvement opportunities that are in effect. These opportunities will, in turn, enable the building of trust, partnership, and friendships between great NATO allies. Until approximately mid-September, USAREUR, the 194th Engineer Brigade, Tennessee Army National Guard, the 10th Engineer Brigade, Romanian Land Forces, and the 877th Engineer Battalion, Alabama National Guard will be working side by side to complete all mission requirements in and around Cincu Training Range.
