SILVERDALE, Wash. – Manpower, Personnel, Training, and Education Fleet Master Chief April D. Beldo visited Naval Base Kitsap (NBK), March 25 - 27.
The visit served as an opportunity for Beldo to engage junior Sailors through senior deckplate leadership to answer questions and gain feedback.
“This visit allowed me to reach out to Sailors during multiple events,” said Beldo, a Lancaster, California native whose been serving in her current position since 2013.
Beldo was able to speak and attend Naval Base Kitsap’s annual First Class Petty Officer Leadership Symposium, Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Call, and tour NBK’s Small Arms Training Center.
“What is your primary mission here?” Beldo asked during a tour of the $12.5 million training facility.
“We are [NBK’s] firearms qualifier,” said Chief Gunner’s Mate Joseph Valentine, a Tacoma, Washington, native and NBK range leading chief petty officer. “We support 73 tenant commands and push 62,000 individuals through 48,000 courses of fire per year here.”
The facility serves as the installation’s primary armory and is equipped with two firearms training simulators and four ranges, each equipped with 12 lanes and 25 meters deep.
NBK personnel demonstrated their capabilities during a Naval Hand Gun Qualification Course.
Beldo serves as the senior enlisted advisor to the Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP).
