MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP BUTLER, Okinawa, Japan – The Okinawa Area Coordinator and Commanding General of III Marine Expeditionary Force invites media representatives to a press conference May 28 at Building One on Camp Foster, Okinawa, at 9:00 a.m. JST.
Lt. Gen. Lawrence D. Nicholson will give a statement and accept questions from media representatives about an island-wide period of unity and mourning in memory of the Okinawan female victim, and out of respect for our Okinawan friends and neighbors in this difficult time. This is a terrible tragedy. Our deepest prayers and condolences are with the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones.
At 7:30 a.m. JST on May 27, component commands across all service branches on Okinawa will begin an island-wide period of unity and mourning. This is a time to have internal discussion between commands and their service members to reflect on this tragic event and how we, as good neighbors, collectively grieve the loss of innocent life in our shared community where we all live and work.
Media members interested in attending the press conference are asked to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. May 28, at Gate 1 on Camp Foster. On-base parking will be provided for media representatives, proper media credentials will be required for base access.
