Col. Glover visits the 314th CSSB at JRTC

311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command   

FORT POLK, La. – Col. Toni Glover, 650th Regional Support Group commanding officer, visited Maj. Leopold Karanikolas, 314th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion commander, at Fort Polk during a Joint Readiness Training Center exercise May 7, where units from the U.S. Army National Guard, Army Reserve and active-duty Army Soldiers train together.

The JRTC mission is to provide America’s military forces relevant, rigorous multi-echelon training in a mission rehearsal exercise environment to develop adaptive leaders, confident units and robust capabilities across the range of military operations achieving Army readiness.

Headed by Capt. Jose Garcia, 314th CSSB operations supervisor, the 314th CSSB manned the Intermediate Staging Base tactical operations center with 55 Soldiers and supported the 101st Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

“It took a lot of hard work organizing this exercise, but when everything comes together the hard work payed off,” said Garcia. “I have learned a lot from working with the other Army components.”

In the exercise scenario, the Republic of Atropia’s security forces have created a defensive position in opposition to the Arianian forces, thus, setting the stage. After the Arianian forces seized control of a main avenue, allied elements must move accesses and forces to counter this situation.

Fort Polk is the perfect venue to stage these exercises since it encompasses 198,000 acres, where the Army can conduct maneuvers that give Soldiers an opportunity to train in various terrains.

“The best part of being the commander is going into the field and visiting the Soldiers in my command,” said Glover. “This annual training is very important because it prepares us for real life situations and when we go down range.”

The mission of the 314th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion is to provide mission command of all assigned and attached units of the Combat Sustainment Support Battalion as it operates logistics hubs of supply, transportation, and maintenance support to the Sustainment Brigade and supported Brigade Combat Teams.
