Sailors stationed and deployed at Misawa Air Base along with local civilians participated in Lake Ogawara's Annual Hotokenuma Beach Cleanup in Misawa, Japan.

The volunteers picked up more than 300 pounds of trash and debris at the beach which is connected to the fields and marshes where birds, known as Japanese marsh warblers, nest.

Miho Taneichi and Construction Electrician 2nd Class Aaron Trotter, both assigned to Naval Facilities Far East Public Works Detachment, Misawa, worked with the city of Misawa, Japan to organize the event.

Sailors from Naval Air Facility Misawa, Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Detachment Misawa, Aviation Support Detachment Misawa, and the “Yellow Jackets” of Electronic Attack Warfare Squadron (VAQ) 138 were among those who volunteered.

“It’s a great opportunity for us as Sailors to make a positive impact in our local community,” said Aviation Electronics Technician Larry Algard, assigned to Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Detachment Misawa, from Alamogardo, N.M.
