With the peak permanent change of station season arriving, service members are now better equipped to execute orders with guidance from the Distribution Management Office.

"The peak PCS season is when a lot of career level service members prepare to move to their next duty station," said Master Sgt. Adam McDermott, the distribution management chief for Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. "A lot of these service members have school-aged children and this is the time of year where a lot of them are in receipt of orders."

As of April 1, the Jacksonville, Florida office controls the eastern region booking process for movement of both civilians and service members.

During the peak seasons, the process takes three or four weeks to complete. DMO encourages service members to start the process of preparing to move as soon as possible, first by setting up a mail.mil account and going through the modules.

"As soon as you’re in receipt of orders, don’t procrastinate," said McDermott. "We will do our best to accommodate each and every service member."

DMO offers classes located at building 1011 Monday through Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. to help service members understand the process and to answer any questions that service members may have about PCS moves.

Counselors with the class provide attendees with information such as weight entitlement, the shipment process and personally-owned vehicle storage.

"One of the things we want the service members to understand is that we don’t like saying no," said McDermott. "We will bend over backwards and be as flexible as we can if that means getting what they need.

"We just want our service members to be flexible with us so we can help them in any way we can; every service member is in their own unique situation, and we will do the best we can to accommodate."

For any questions concerning the peak PCS season, contact the Distribution Management Office at 451-2377.
