NMCB 4 Seabees give back to NAF Atsugi at “Kid’s Fest” 2016

Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4 Det. Atsugi recognized the importance of children whose parents serve in the armed forces by participating in the annual Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan “Kid’s Fest”, Apr. 2.

The month of the military child festivities began Fri., Apr. 1 with a morning parade for the children of Sailors stationed in the area. Saturday, the celebration continued with “Kid’s Fest.” The day was filled with games, an obstacle course and several other activities put on by Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) and the base’s various tenant commands.

“It was really cool getting to run the obstacle course and sports stations we set up and seeing the kids enjoying themselves” said Builder Constructionman Joseph Giannetti. “I’m glad we are here for the month of the military child and that we are able to participate in the festival.”

“It was nice to see how many people from across the base came together to set up and participate in this event,” said Officer In Charge, Utilitiesman First Class Joshua Ruggles.

NMCB 4 is the first Seabee battalion to deploy to NAF Atsugi in recent years. In addition to construction project commitments, Det. Atsugi is establishing a presence and working relationship with Public Works Atsugi, laying the groundwork for follow on deployments by other battalions.

Homeported out of Port Hueneme, Calif., NMCB 4 has detachment sites deployed throughout the United States and Pacific area of operations, including Cambodia, Diego Garcia, Guam, Japan, Philippines, Republic of Korea and Timor Leste.
