Message from Col. Marty Muchow, deputy commander for operations, 20th CBRNE Command:
This Peace Officers Memorial Day, gives us an opportunity to stop and join together with the local, state and federal police officers we work with across the nation, and honor those officers who died in the line of duty ensuring your family and mine's safety.
We train with and support police officers at all levels during the year. From supporting them when they find an unexploded ordnance round to working together to protect visiting dignitaries such as the Pope or foreign leaders.
This year, I encourage you to remember the 33 police officers who died in the line of duty so far this year. For those of you here at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, remember Senior Deputy Mark Logsdon and Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey, both tragically shot without warning by a wanted subjected.
Logsdon was an Army veteran and served Harford County for 16 years, and Dailey was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving the county for 30 years. We mourn these heroes; they dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms and safety. We must carry forward their noble legacy.
I encourage each of you today to pause and reflect on those that laid down their lives to protect others.
