Destroyers case colors

D Company, Troop Command, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, cased their colors signifying the deactivation of the company comprised of soldiers at the Spc. Hugo V. Mendoza Soldier Family Care Center, May 2.

“I could not be more proud of the accomplishments of Delta Company,” said Lt. Col. Sereka Barlow, deputy commander of administration, WBAMC. “Look at all the good things that were said about the company.”

The company, also known as the Destroyers, was activated as a headquarters company for WBAMC’s Primary Care and Soldier Readiness Command (PCSR), a battalion-level command, in 2014.

“On Feb. 8, 2014 as we uncased the colors I was filled with excitement and eagerness to command,” said Capt. Michael Cooper, outgoing commander of D Company. “Every day has been an honor and a privilege.”

Aside from providing health care, D Company also produced WBAMC’s NCO of the Year for 2016 and 2015 and Soldier of the Year in 2015.

“When I came into this role I had a vision of what the company should become,” said Cooper. “I set my values with three simple phrases: do what’s right, be respectful and never stop improving.”

Cooper assumed command of the company when D Company was activated and remained in command through deactivation, making him the first and only commander of the Destroyers.

In 2014 through 2015, D Company was actively involved in the Army’s Ebola Response Mission on Ft. Bliss, screening over 1,000 service members and civilians as they returned from humanitarian support missions in West Africa. The company was also responsible for logistical support and accommodating the returning personnel during a 21-day monitoring period.

“Your efforts are not forgotten,” said Barlow, addressing the company. “Your bond and commitment to the Soldiers and support you offer to over 600 civilians will far outlive your 986 days.”

Over 65,000 beneficiaries across Fort Bliss and El Paso are served by the Soldiers and staff of D Company which was comprised of the Mendoza SFCC, East Bliss Clinic, McGregor Health Clinic and Rio Bravo Health Care Clinic. The Soldiers of D Company will continue their mission as they integrate into other companies under Troop Command, WBAMC.

“We became a family and it’s been an awesome time,” said Cooper.
