Jacksonville, Fla. – Commander, Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) visited Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE), the largest tenant command on Naval Air Station Jacksonville, to meet with managers and tour the military depot April 26.
Vice Adm. Paul Grosklags visited the command to gain a better understanding of FRCSE programs and initiatives.
"I came to visit FRCSE because of our focus on readiness,” said Grosklags. “It’s important that I see one of the primary sites that contribute to overall aviation readiness whether that includes aircraft, engines or components. Military depot artisans are doing a great job and I wanted to see if there is anything we can do at NAVAIR to help ease the processes here.”
FRCSE Commanding Officer Capt. Chuck Stuart and command leadership provided an in-depth overview of the command including products and services, funding requirements, kitting processes, Critical Chain Project Management, partnerships with technical and logistical agencies, environmental stewardship, major accomplishments, and future workloads.
While touring the F/A-18 Hornet production line, FRCSE F/A-18 Integrated Product Team Lead Monty Pearce and Hornet Production Officer and Test Pilot Cmdr. Brian Baller explained how artisans disassemble the aircraft, some of the issues they are finding and the process of refurbishing the mission-critical aircraft.
During a tour of the Industrial Manufacturing Division, Director Major Nimock pointed out one-of-a-kind aircraft components that the artisans are producing for the fleet. He credited the highly skilled manufacturing team for its innovative solutions to provide exceptional value to the customer.
On the P-3C Orion production line, FRCSE P-3C Integrated Product Team Lead Angello Evans discussed the aircraft’s sundown in 2020 and what possible workload the command would get on the P-8A Poseidon. He explained how military depot artisans continue to work on the legacy aircraft, still used by numerous agencies, to expand capabilities after more than 30 years of service to the fleet.
“I had some really good discussions and a tour to gain perspective on how FRCSE is proceeding on F/A-18 A-D Hornet aircraft, particularly the high flight hour inspections and repairs of these aircraft,” said Grosklags. “I was also impressed by some of the new manufacturing capabilities that have been incorporated here.”
Grosklags’ visit concluded with a meeting with key leadership where they discussed command objectives, requirements and concerns.
“I think the best part of the visit was meeting with key leadership where I fielded some quite challenging questions,” he said. “It was a great opportunity to better understand some of the major issues and concerns of the people working here that prevents them from getting their jobs accomplished as efficiently and effectively as possible. Visiting commands and meeting people is the best way to get the feedback I need.”
The admiral also praised the FRCSE team for their dedication and enthusiasm to produce quality products to the fleet.
“The FRCSE team is doing great work in support of aviation readiness,” said Grosklags. “However, we collectively need to continue to focus on the foundation elements of readiness and figure out how to do things more efficiently to get these aircraft and components back on the line as quickly as we can. I commend the team here for continuing to look for new opportunities and ideas in the shops and on the production lines.”
