    GALVESTON, TX, UNITED STATES

    04.18.2016

    Story by Sandra Arnold

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District

HOUSTON (April 18, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District staff is anticipating several roads to be inundated with water in the Addicks and Barker dams and reservoirs, to include State Highway 6, Eldridge, Barker-Cypress and Clay roads as well as Westheimer Parkway along with additional minor roads in both reservoirs.

“All recreational facilities will be closed in the Addicks and Barker structures,” said Richard Long, supervisory natural resources manager for the USACE Galveston District. “We expect record pools in both Addicks and Barker dams and are organizing and dispatching teams to further monitor these structures to ensure their integrity.”

Long stated that the structures are functioning as intended and staff will be providing around-the-clock monitoring to ensure the slopes and the downstream toe of the dam as well as the area around the water control structures at both facilities continue to operate properly.
