Navy Region Korea Completes NMCRS Fund Drive

BUSAN, Republic of Korea (April 18, 2016) – Commander, U.S. Navy Region Korea (CNRK) completed the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society’s annual fund drive April 10 with the most donations collected since 2010.

The NMCRS, a non-profit, charitable organization that relies on donations from service members and their families, provides financial assistance, education, and offers other assistance programs to Sailors and Marines, their eligible family members, widows, and survivors.

“One hundred percent contact is the goal,” said Lt. Daniel Fritz, CNRK’s NMCRS coordinator. “Every person received a chance to donate, but even those who did not still learned about the relief society.”

This year’s drive generated more than $18,000 in allotments, cash, check, and credit card donations.

“I'm very proud of our Sailors and Marines for donating,” said Lt. Daniel Fritz, the NMCRS coordinator for CNRK. “Everyone was willing to help out a fellow shipmate, even though they will never know who received the help.”

Yeoman 1st Class Jordan Smith, an NMCRS representative, explained to personnel how he benefitted from the relief society and said he thinks the time he spent educating people on the importance of the NMCRS and fund drive helped increase total donations.

“I had a situation a few years ago where I needed to utilize the services,” said Smith. The representatives were very helpful and knowledgeable, and I remember the relief of leaving the office with a check in my hand knowing that I’d be alright. I think if you’re going to take a little bit, you might as well give a bit too.”

Smith added that he believed the time and effort spent on the fund drive will benefit those who need help.

“There is no doubt in my mind that the money we raised will be put to good use,” said Smith. “Things happen all the time, and we’re not always ready. NMCRS help makes sure we are.”
