    7th Army Training Command

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany -- A deal is what made these two friends compete in the United States Army Garrison Bavaria and the 7th Army Joint Multinational Training Command 4th Annual Grafenwoehr Rugged Terrain Obstacle Run, April 9, 2016, here.

When Lt. Col. Brian Carlin, 7th Army Joint Multinational Training Command, approached his buddy 1st Lt. Jason Peck, C. Company, 1st Battalion, 214th Aviation Regiment, 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, he had no idea what the outcome of the offer would be.

"To be honest, Lt. Col. Carlin asked me if I wanted to do this a couple of months ago and I said yes, but, I want to do a half-marathon. He agreed and we made a deal," said Peck. "So I actually planned this in as a sort of progression for the half-marathon."

The Rugged Terrain Obstacle Run is a 16 kilometer hardcore cross country run that has 20 obstacles such as the mud crawl, the rock climb, and the water walk to name a few.

This was Carlin's third time completing the event and continues to do so because he says, "it's just fun."

As Carlin took a moment to catch his breath after crossing the finish line, he said, "it's mentally and physically challenging and I feel good after doing it."

Thinking back to their favorite obstacles during the run, Carlin, the endurance of running the entire race and Peck, negotiating the rock climb, they both said they would definitely do it again.

These two friends completed each obstacle side-by-side cheering each other on and crossed the finish line after two hours and nine minutes.

"If you're giving it everything you have to give, when you get to the end of the race you're totally done," said Peck.

May 8, Carlin and Peck will travel to Regensburg to compete in the half-marathon as promised.
