BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan, April 12, 2016— The Army of the Czech Republic (Czech: Armáda České republiky) hosted a transfer of authority on Tuesday afternoon between their 5th and 6th Force Protection Companies at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

The Soldiers, part of the Czech Ground Forces, served a six month deployment at Bagram Airfield as part of Task Force Buffalo conducting key force protection patrols and security measures on and around the airfield. The ceremony was the conclusion of a two week long hand over, culminating in the official transfer at the Bagram Clamshell.

The Czech Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mr. Miroslav Toman, attended the ceremony and took the time to shake all the Soldiers’ hands to thank them for a job well done prior to the ceremony beginning.

“To the Soldiers of the 5th Force Protection Company, I cordially thank you for a job well done, you have exemplary fulfilled (all) tasks and the representation of the Czech Republic and its Armed Forces,” Toman said. “Additionally, I would like to thank our coalition partners for the cooperation and support shown to each other over the last six months.”

The ambassador concluded his comments with wishing the new commander and his Soldiers best of luck and a promise of continued support for the people of the Czech Republic and the Resolute Support Headquarters.

Task Force Buffalo Commander, LTC Matthew McCulley commented on the professionalism and contributions of the Czech Soldiers in his remarks.

“The Soldiers from the 5th FPC will return him to their families and friends knowing that their contributions over the last six months have directly saved lives and increased the security of the personnel on the airfield as well as in the villages surrounding the base,” said McCulley. “I could not have asked for a better group of Soldiers and leaders. I am extremely proud to have had the privilege to work alongside and with these men over the last six months.”

The outgoing Company Commander, Capt. Radek Soman praised the efforts of his men and the entire Task Force during his remarks.

“Together with our American counterparts we have successfully protected the people on the base. Our Soldiers can return with pride and great memories of their service here.”

USFOR-A, Deputy Commander, Support, Maj. Gen. Jeffery L. Bannister was unable to attend the ceremony but shared his thankfulness and appreciation to all the Soldiers of the Czech Republic serving here in Afghanistan.

“It would not be possible for the Coalition forces here at Bagram to successfully support ongoing operations and the local community without the assistance and expertise from our partners like the Czech contingent here at BAF,” said Bannister. “The contributions and sacrifices that the Czech Republic has made here in Afghanistan has made a huge difference, both to our forces and to the Afghan people. Without our partners support, the NATO led mission could not be successful and we could not continue on our own.”

Resolute Support is a NATO lead operation aimed at improving the capacity and capability of the Afghan civil and military authorities through training, advising and assisting at various levels of government throughout the country.
