BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Soldiers with the Army Reserve Sustainment Command stood in formation to witness Command Sgt. Maj. Vicki Briggs, outgoing command sergeant major of the ARSC, relinquish responsibility to Command Sgt. Maj. Kristal Florquist.

Briggs was the command sergeant major for the ARSC for more than three years. During her tenure, her leadership brought forth a 40 percent increase in the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program’s duty military occupational specialty qualification.

Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Doll, commanding general of the ARSC, spoke very highly of Briggs and her exceptional leadership as the command sergeant major for the past 39 months.

Doll said her leadership and dedication directly contributed to the first-ever 100 percent assigned strength in the critical acquisition field in the command, one of the most significant improvements he has seen in his 35-year career.

“Her loyal service, sound counsel, commitment to the improvement of the command and keen eye for metrics ensured the command’s success,” said Doll to all in attendance. “On behalf of the entire command team, I want to thank you for your dedicated service to the ARSC.”

As Briggs was recognized, she had the opportunity to address her ARSC Soldiers one last time.

“The ARSC is a fantastic unit,” said Briggs. “These Soldiers and civilians have always bent over backwards for each other. Take care of them, and they’ll take care of you.”

Briggs released responsibility to Florquist, who recently served as the command sergeant major of the 2nd Brigade, Pacific Training Division, 75th Training Command.

Florquist is a Colorado native with more than 30 years of military experience, and is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Leadership Development program at the University of the Rockies in Denver, Colorado.

During the ceremony, Doll recognized both Briggs and Florquist as two exceptional senior noncommissioned officers, who have dedicated their lives to maintaining the honorable legacy of the NCO Corps.

Today we are honored to welcome Command Sergeant Major Florquist to the ARSC, said Doll.

“She has served in successive leadership assignments and has extensive deployment and operational experience,” said Doll.

He added that Florquist has served at every level of senior NCO leadership and will bring her wealth of experience and knowledge to the command.

“I am confident you will provide wise counsel and advice and continue the leadership legacy as we support the important missions for the Army here at the ARSC,” said Doll.

As Florquist stood before the ARSC, she thanked everyone for their warm welcome.

“I am both humbled and honored to have been selected to serve as your next CSM,” said Florquist. “I pledge to you that I will teach, coach, mentor and lead with heart, logic and discipline.”
