Army Reserve Soldier has the drive to succeed

    FORT DIX, NJ, UNITED STATES

    04.10.2016

    Story by Spc. Joshua Richardson

    354th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment

Screaming and surrounding the Soldiers, they test their military bearing in a high stress situation.
Sgt. Stephen Davies, a truck driver with the 319th Transportation Company, calmly directs his Soldiers to hand out food in an organized manner.
“This is very realistic,” said Davies, a two-tour veteran of Iraq participating in Combat Support Training Exercise 2016. “It’s good education for the Soldiers who don't have experience.”
Davies, a native of Brooklyn, believes his training in the military is beneficial to his civilian life.
When Davies completes this three-week-long training exercise he will return to the daily grind of construction work. Along with that, he serves his community as a volunteer firefighter.
“I enjoy being a firefighter,” said Davies. “They rely on me to drive the firetrucks whether its a house fire, motor vehicle crash or any other emergency. They taught me how to drive trucks in the military.
“With what [the Army Reserve] has given me, I have the tools to be an effective leader, as well as teach, train and coach soldiers,” Davies said.
