    1st Marine Logistics Group

AT-TAQADDUM, Iraq – Marines from 1st Supply Battalion (Reinforced), 1st Marine Logistics Group have developed a more organized system to better serve Multi-National Force - West.

Similar to a major shopping center, 1st Supply Bn. (REIN) supports service members by providing all categories of equipment and supplies including liquids, construction items and all repair parts.

The unit segregated the parts by class and has added a new section for Mine Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle parts. Consolidating MRAP parts into one lot to make finding a part easier was one important task accomplished this deployment.

"For all the new vehicles, every spare part is here," said Cpl. Jeremy S. Gott, non-commissioned officer-in-charge of the MRAP lot.

Gott, 21, from Losby, Md., explained it took extra work to consolidate the MRAP lot but now, thanks to the system's efficiency, it is easier to keep accountability. They also keep an online catalog for mechanics to order parts.

The improvements are designed to make finding an item less tedious, which in return allows for a faster turnaround when parts are requested.

To further upgrade their operations in other lots, supply is working to place all items into 20 foot containers.

"Our job now is to containerize all the equipment to make us more expeditionary," said Master Sgt. Jose Castillo, 42, from Hemet, Calif., storage operations chief. "If at any moment's notice we have to move, we are ready."

Chief Warrant Officer Aundrey L. Salter, storage operations officer-in-charge, said it is also important to move everything into containers to protect gear from the elements and extreme weather. Keeping the gear in good condition is important because it prevents money loss to replace it on the shelf.

"A customer may have to wait a few days longer if the item is corroded," explained Salter, 35, from Port Arthur, Texas.

Continuing to improve their operations, the supply Marines will expand the hardware area where they store construction materials.

"Organizing the more than 8 million items they manage allows the unit to be more efficient in their operations," said Salter.
