QUANTICO, Va. - Which civilian employee aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico was featured on Jeopardy! February 2016?

If you guessed, “Who is Katie Oliver?” you are correct.

Oliver took a pause from her administrative assistant position at the Naval Criminal Investigative Service Headquarters, where she is in charge of purchasing and data entry, to test her knowledge on Jeopardy! February 17.

After taking the online trivia quiz, Oliver received an invite in October to audition in Boston, Massachusetts. Her successful audition was followed with a trip to Los Angeles in January, where her mother cheered her on during the taping for season 32.

“[The producers] picked me to be on the show, and so I just wanted to have fun,” she said, after confessing she was nervous about the audition, yet rather calm on the day of filming. The Fredericksburg, Virginia native attended the University of Mary Washington where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history. She enjoys visiting cemeteries, historical sites and battle fields in the local area.

It seemed the scholar doesn’t scare easily from her list of hobbies. “I like ghost hunting,” she announced to host Alex Trebek during her introduction to Jeopardy!’s audience .

The three gamers challenged each other and themselves in a live trivia challenge. Oliver led for a portion of the game. She mentioned this was the most memorable time for her. She met a surprising end in Final Jeopardy!, and went all in with an $11,800 wager.

The Final Jeopardy! category was The American Film Institute’s 100 years:100 movies. Clue: This man was the only living actor in six or more films: To Kill A Mockingbird, MASH, The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Network, and Apocalypse Now. Answer: “Who is Robert Duvalll?”

After the 30 seconds allotted, Oliver wrote, Marlon Brando on her electronic display. Her incorrect answer left her with a $0 balance. After returning home, she thought of the experience and says she doesn’t regret her large wager. She quoted the mantra, “You only live once.”

“It was a very exiting day. I wouldn’t have done anything differently, at all,” she said. “I had so much fun being on stage, buzzing in and answering questions.”

Oliver’s coworkers helped her to prepare for Jeopardy! for more than 60 days by spontaneously quizzing her during the work day. She said she was “thankful to the base community for rallying behind her.”
