Story by Sgt. 1st Class Nathan Hutchison

    10th Mountain Division

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan - Task Force Dragon, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division officially transferred authority to Task Force Red Warrior, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, during an event March 14 here at Bagram Air Field.

Maj. Gen. Bannister, U.S. Forces Afghanistan-support and 10th Mountain Division commander, was the guest speaker at the transfer of authority.

Bannister, who said he had worked previously with both commanders, said he had tremendous respect for both of the units and their leadership.

“This is the best mission in Afghanistan,” said Lt. Col. Michael S. Avey, Task Force Red Warrior commander. “There's always something different and something new that will keep us busy for the next nine months.”

That was true also for Task Force Dragon, who according to their commander, Lt. Col. Michael J Kovacevic, lived up to the 2nd BCT motto of “we go where others dare not go.”

“Our leaders and Soldiers at every level had the opportunity to lead and act with disciplined initiative in often short notice and ambiguous situations,” Kovacevic said. “It has been a true privilege to serve as Theater Reserve Force and contribute to the efforts of the Resolute Support and Freedoms Sentinel mission here in Afghanistan.”
