OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea - The challenging high operational tempo of exercise Beverly Midnight 16-01 along with the influx of additional personnel creates many logistical hurdles including the accurate allocation and timely delivery of fuels to aircraft.

Keeping these state-of-the-art fighter aircraft and support vehicles operational requires a well-orchestrated logistical plan, combining maintenance and manpower.

“We are responsible for providing fuel to every aircraft so they are able to generate combat capabilities during the exercise,” said Tech. Sgt. Donald Smith, 51st Logistics Readiness Squadron NCO in charge of the fuels service center. “Our Airmen are vital to ensuring the wing can provide continuous combat airpower throughout the peninsula.”

Across the base, LRS Airmen are working day and night providing support for the generation of aircraft.

“Osan has an extremely high tempo and we are really asking a lot from our Airmen,” said Smith. “A lot of them come right from technical school and once here have about 2-3 weeks to be brought up to our standards. Then they are out on the flight line fueling aircraft making the mission possible.”

Launch and recovery of aircraft is performed both day and night during exercises, challenging personnel to push their limits.

“With aircraft being generated on a continuous basis and injects being added without any notice, this exercise is really demanding,” said Senior Airman Joshua Jordan, 51st LRS fuels service center controller. “This is the second exercise I have participated in and I really enjoy learning and training in this kind of exercise environment.”

Beverly Midnight 16-01 is a combined readiness exercise intended to test Airmen in a variety of simulated combat scenarios to measure their effectiveness and overall combat readiness.

According to Jordan, POL fuels the fight, getting aircraft into the air as soon as possible.

Jordan stated, “We are really able to show how we keep the fight going despite any challenge we are faced with. My goals are to do my best every day and learn as much as possible so I can effectively train my future Airmen.”
