US, Estonia to conduct joint NCOPD

TAPA TRAINING AREA, Estonia – Once again Iron Troop Soldiers of 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, stationed out of Vilseck, Germany, pioneer their way into the hearts and minds of the Estonian Soldiers by conducting a first-time joint Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development (NCOPD) training class at the level of Staff Sgt. and Sgt. 1st Class ranks, which will be held in the cities of Voru and Tartu, Estonia, Mar. 15-16, 2016.

The main focus of the joint NCOPD is to allow the Soldiers of both forces to get to know one another better and build a stronger relationship between the U.S. and Estonian forces.

The joint NCOPD will be a two-day event beginning in Voru. Both forces will talk about their training and promotion systems with the U.S. focusing on sharing the Select-Train-Educate-Promote (STEP) program and the 8 Step Training Model with the Estonian Soldiers and leaders.

While both forces are in Voru, they will tour the Noncommissioned Officer Academy facility. Our allies will share with the U.S. Soldiers the everyday regime of an Estonian Soldier as he attends the NCO Academy from the moment the Soldier wakes up until the time he lays his head down at the end of the training day and until the day he graduates from the academy.

The following day the Soldiers will tour the War College in Tartu, Estonia, giving both forces another opportunity to talk with each other and get to know one another. After the tour there will be an NCOPD open discussion period. During this time, the Soldiers will be able to communicate about any topic of current events they choose, whether it be sports, military training, or their likes and dislikes.

Later that evening, the forces will once again integrate for a joint dinner in Tartu, which will allow them to continue building a stronger relationship between the allied forces. The joint NCOPD is designed for both forces to teach and to learn from each other’s ways of training, leading, and promoting their Soldiers, but it is also designed for the leaders and Soldiers to build a lasting bond and friendship between the two forces.

These activities are part of the U.S. Army Europe-led operations of Atlantic Resolve land force assurance training taking place across Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and other Baltic countries to enhance multinational interoperability, strengthen relationships among allied militaries, contribute to regional stability and demonstrate U.S. commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
