COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Army National Guard will host its third annual combatives tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Maj. Gen. Robert S. Beightler Armory, 2825 West Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus.
The competition will test the hand-to-hand combat techniques and skills taught and practiced by Soldiers as part of the Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP). The goal of the MACP is to train Soldiers on how to protect themselves against threats using a non-lethal response and without firearms.
Seven weight classes will be represented during the tournament: Flyweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, cruiserweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. Males and females will compete together.
Last year, 57 Soldiers from across the state competed in the weekend event, already more than 100 Soldiers have signed up to compete this year.
The finals are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
