LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The 913th Aerospace Medical Squadron welcomed its new commander, Lt. Col. Victor D. Lavigne, during a change of command ceremony held Sunday, Feb. 21, in the Walter’s Community Center here. He took the reins from Lt. Col. Vito Carabetta.

Lavigne, who hails from Hinesville, Georgia, has been in the Air Force for 15 years, and expressed gratitude for his first command position.

“Thank you Colonel Drescher for having confidence in me and appointing me to this position,” Lavigne said. “You saw something in me that I don’t always express openly.”

Lavigne’s last assignment was at Robbin Air Force Base, Georgia.

In welcoming the new commander, Col. Craig Drescher, commander, 913th Airlift Group, commended Lavigne for the confidence it took to step up and take command.

“I’m grateful to him for volunteering,” Drescher said of Lavigne. “He came highly recommended from his former commander and AFRC HQ. He was an overwhelming, unanimous choice. I’m looking forward to his leadership in taking the medical squadron to new heights.”

Lavigne’s goals include increasing the size of the organization, effectively serving the Group and tending to their medical requirements.

Drescher, who presided over the ceremony, also thanked Carabetta for his record of excellence as the 913 AMDS commander, before presenting him with the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal.

After presenting the medal, Drescher told the crowd, “Colonel Carabetta will be staying on at the 913th, and we relish the opportunity to have him as our flight surgeon.”

Carabetta commanded the 913 AMDS from June 15, 2011 to Feb. 19, 2016.
