FORT WORTH, Texas - Film stars Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton, along with director Dexter Fletcher, arrived aboard Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas, Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, for a pre-screening of their upcoming film, "Eddie the Eagle," open to service members, DOD civilians and their families.

Leading up to the pre-screening, Jackman was given the chance to take part in an orientation flight aboard an F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft with the Air Force’s 457th Fighter Squadron.

“This is my first time on (NAS Fort Worth JRB) and, of course, my first time being in an F-16,” said Jackman. “As we keep getting closer to takeoff, I keep thinking to myself, ‘They do know that I’m just an actor right?’ but this is an opportunity that I could not pass on, and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to do this.”

As part of the flight, Egerton was given the chance to clear his co-star's flight before takeoff from inside the station’s air traffic control tower.

“Being here gives you a real appreciation of what service members do on base,” said Egerton. “It’s quite inspiring the level of commitment and dedication that it takes to be in this line of work, it’s something not of late people can do. It makes you very grateful for being here.”

With the flight completed, all three men headed to the Movie Reel Theater aboard station to talk to service members before the start of the film.

“There are approximately 10,000 Marines, sailors, airmen and soldiers on this base,” said Fletcher. “And luckily, we have the chance to give 400 of the service members who packed the theater the chance to view a film we have had such a great time putting together.”

Fletcher added that he wishes he could have more of the service members on base come and see the overflowing event, but was ecstatic to see a packed house.

Before the start of the film, Jackman and Egerton gave onlookers a few hints at their upcoming films, while Fletcher told the audience his upcoming work is a surprise.

“It’s a great experience having these guys visit the base,” said Navy Capt. Michael Steffen, NAS Fort Worth JRB commanding officer. “It’s not often that we get the opportunity to guest film stars like Jackman and Egerton, and I think it speaks a lot about their character that they are willing to come visit a military installation and speak with service members.”

Steffen stated that he was very happy to see the amount of support the units aboard station showed, adding that he wanted to thank all three gentlemen for taking time out of their schedule and spending it with service members.
