FORT POLK, La. – Active-duty Soldiers from the 574th Quartermaster Company, 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, conducted fueling operations in support of an Army Reserve exercise at Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) in Fort Polk, Louisiana, Feb. 17.

“We are here to provide support to the Army Reserve Soldiers,” said Sgt. Thomas Williams, a petroleum supply specialist with the 574th Quartermaster Company. “Before they go out on their missions or after they finish, they stop by in their vehicles and we fuel them up.”

The Army and Army Reserve made preparations to deliberately and purposefully integrate training among and between components as part of the Army Total Force Policy. The policy ensures that there is continuity within the different components and promotes interoperability.

“Working with the Reserve Soldiers is just like working with the active-duty guys back home,” said the Navarre, Florida, native. “This training exercise shows how the Army implements the same standard across the different components.”

The Soldiers in the 574th Quartermaster Company, an active duty unit based in Alaska, are augmenting for the 103rd Quartermaster Company, a Reserve unit, for the JRTC training rotation 16-04.

“The work is fluid,” said Spc. Matt Giroud, a petroleum supply specialist in the 574th Quartermaster Company. “They know what they are doing.”

One of the main goals of the of the Army Total Force Policy is to stress the importance of cooperation and standardization within the Army’s different components. This exercise is a great way to see the different components are compatible, especially conducting real-world scenarios, said Giroud.

“Working with the Reserve Soldiers is easy,” said the Sunset Beach, North Carolina, native. “We are all Soldiers working toward the same goal.”
