CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Marines with 2nd Law Enforcement Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, experienced policing in a hostile environment in preparation for an upcoming deployment with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Feb. 9, 2016.
During the time the Marines spent in the field, they encountered multiple obstacles and confronted different scenarios. The simulated obstacles that they faced included rugged environments, improvised explosive devises and ambushes by the enemy.
“The scenario is, we are holding position at our forward operating base only a short distance away from a city with possible hostiles,” said Cpl. Steven Eakes, a military policeman with the unit. “We do this kind of training monthly to maintain standards, and ensure that every Marine is proficient and is able to cooperate with any deployed unit.”
This kind of training allows 2nd LEB to develop and practice all the capabilities that the policemen bring to the MEU. Some of those capabilities include working military dogs, detainee operations and tactical side exploitation [scene investigation].
“I don’t want the Marines to get complacent while deployed,” said 1st Lt. Dakota Herpich, the platoon commander for the unit. “We’ve been hitting the Marines with different scenarios to make sure that they’re always vigilant and alert.”
