    3/2 Cav. go the distance

ADAZI TRAINING AREA, Latvia – Soldiers of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, stationed out of Vilseck, Germany, overlook the terrain of the sniper range and identify the enemy targets, some as far as 900 meters away, during a field training exercise at Adazi Training Center in Latvia, Jan. 27, 2016.

The Soldiers of 3rd Sqdn., 2nd Cav. Regt. are in Latvia in support of Atlantic Resolve, which allows U.S. Soldiers the opportunity to work with and train alongside our NATO allies in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland. It also helps the U.S. to forge relationships that foster trust and mutual understanding, strengthen interoperability, and demonstrate our commitment to the NATO Alliance.

“Our team will be working with the Latvian snipers and completing missions with them,” said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ryon Carrillo, a senior sniper squad leader with 3rd Sqdn., 2nd Cav. Regt., originally from Brea, Calif. “They will be pairing up with the Latvians and working with them and learning how to operate with them side-by-side.”

Carrillo went on to say how excited the Soldiers are to be in Latvia and working alongside with our NATO allies and experiencing some of the hardships that they have to endure such as weather and terrain.

“Our Soldiers are excited about being here in Latvia,” said Carrillo. “Being able to work, train and live with the Latvians is an experience we don’t get to have all the time, and that’s what makes this a unique experience we get to enjoy.”

The 3rd Sqdn., 2nd Cav. Regt. Soldiers will continue their field training exercises in Latvia while deployed. The sniper range will continue throughout the rest of this week, and there will be a cold water entry training, a demolition range exercise, a stress shoot competition, movement lanes, urban breach training, a troop live fire exercise and other squad training exercises in the weeks to follow.
