    101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - Soldiers and leaders from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell gathered to welcome their new acting senior commander at an Honor Eagle ceremony Tuesday in the division headquarters building here.

Brig. Gen. Scott E. Brower, who is returning to Fort Campbell for his fourth assignment will take interim responsibility of Fort Campbell and its units from Maj. Gen. Gary J. Volesky, Commanding General, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

“Over 90 percent of the division is going to remain here and we need a competent and reliable leader to sustain readiness and take care of our Soldiers and Family members while we’re deployed,” Volesky said during the ceremony. “And Scott is exactly the right officer to fill this critical role.”

Brower will assume responsibility of the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters rear detachment as well as all the remaining brigades and tenant units at Fort Campbell while the division completes a nine-month deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Although Brower has spent more than 10 years at Fort Campbell with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), this assignment marks his first with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

“I made a career decision a couple years ago that resulted in a 22-year delay in becoming a Screaming Eagle,” Brower said of joining the special operations community early in his career. “I’m happy to say that that wait is over and we’re proud to be here amongst the Screaming Eagles.”

Brower emphasized that the Fort Campbell community is dear to his family, as he and his wife, Jen, raised their children here.

“While Jen and I were born and raised in the great state of New Jersey, we have truly come to call Fort Campbell, Kentucky, our home.” Brower said. “I truly believe a village raises the children, especially in the military set, and these great communities truly have raised our children, and for that we are indebted and forever grateful.”
