FORT SMITH, Ark. - The 188th Wing welcomed the Arvest Bank local senior management team and regional board of directors to a demonstration of the Wing’s capabilities on Dec. 18, 2015. The presentation was provided to enhance community relations and provide information on how the wing’s three newest mission sets could impact the many Airmen that are employed with Arvest Bank.
The unit has recently converted from manned A-10C Thunderbolt II “Warthogs” to intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, remotely piloted aircraft and space-focused targeting.
“The Guardsmen and women that work in our organization are top notch,” said Rodney Shepard, president and CEO of the Fort Smith Valley Region of Arvest Bank. “They’re hardworking, responsible, creative and have a great attitude. Employers look for those characteristics.”
Col. Bobbi Doorenbos, 188th Wing commander, also introduced the Arvest Bank leaders to the remote air, zonal operations, reach back-processing, assessment and dissemination (RAZORBack PAD) and the predator reaper integrated mission environment (PRIME) trainer.
The RAZORBack PAD can assist disaster workers on the ground with video from overhead aircraft to provide information on areas or people most in need during emergency response planning and operations.
The PRIME is a flight simulator that gives remotely piloted aircraft operators the opportunity to hone their skills during simulated missions.
“We want to better understand what is going on at the 188th now and in the future,” Rodney Shepard stated. “We support family members of Guardsmen and women that work within our organization. It is because of what their work that we get to do what we do daily.”
The 188th Wing has a goal to reciprocate the tradition of military support in the area by working with local communities to uplift and inspire adult and youth alike. This is done in part through volunteer work, base tours and charity drives designed to give back to the community.
“Many of our members joined because they wanted to make a difference, and they do everywhere they go,” said Doorenbos. “Our members work and live in these communities, they volunteer at local schools and they care about the people here. That’s what the National Guard is about.”
