CAMP AS SAYLIYAH, Qatar –Soldiers here and elsewhere in the U.S. Army Central area of responsibility lined up for the chance to watch the opening show of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" Dec. 18.

The opportunity to watch the movie on the opening night provided a morale boost to the Soldiers that stood in line to watch the midnight opening.

“Being able to come out and watch this movie has been a huge motivational factor,” said 1st Lt. Clayton Langford, a supply officer assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment. “I think it’s helping us as a unit become more resilient, it is bringing us together in a setting other than work.”

Some of the Soldiers lined up hours before the opening to get their tickets. At the end of their workday, some of them even waited in the theater to ensure they got the best seats when the movie started.

“I was originally going to wait to go see the movie, but when I saw some of my guys out here lined up to watch it, I decided to join them,” said Langford. “While we waited, we watched the original trilogy, it’s really helping bring us together as a team.”

Most of the Soldiers at the midnight showing were life long Star Wars fans said Master Sgt. Terrell Evans, with the 1st Theater Sustainment Command. He added that having the opportunity to watch the movie out here helps Soldiers cope with the challenge of being away from home.

“I have been a Star Wars fan since 1977 when the first one came out,” said Evans. “There are a lot of Star Wars fans out here. Everyone’s been talking about it for a while. Being able to bring it here, right off the bat, is a big deal. It shows that people care about us. It makes us a more resilient force by helping to get peoples minds off what’s going on at work or at home for a little bit. It’s just good entertainment.”
