FORT BRAGG, Calif. - Coast Guard members distributed collected toys and donations to less fortunate children in the local community for the holidays, Friday, at Coast Guard Station Noyo River in Fort Bragg, California.
"This event has been happening before I came at the unit, which was three years ago," said Master Chief Petty Officer Christopher Wright, officer in charge at Station Noyo River." Everyone at the unit always wants to be a part of it."
Station Noyo River's crew members drop off donation boxes three weeks prior to the event at local businesses to collect toys and donations from the local community.
"This is a wonderful way to give back to the community," said Petty Officer 1st Class Jeff Quinn, project officer for the toy drive. "It's awesome to see how involved the town is in stepping up and donating so many toys for this great cause."
The crew members collected new, unwrapped toys for the drive.
"This toy drive turned into a success," said Quinn. "The amount of toys received could have filled a 47-foot Motor Life Boat."
