FLOWER MOUND, Texas - Marine Corps Recruiting Station Fort Worth is honored to announce the selection of Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl player, Andrew Fitzgerald, a defensive end for Marcus High School. Fitzgerald’s was presented a jersey in front of his teammates in the school’s athletic field house Dec. 16, 2015.
“It’s a great honor, just because being selected for any bowl says that I have good talent on the football field, but is also says that you’re a good kid off the field too,” said Fitzgerald. “Being selected by the Marines is a great honor because of everything they do for our country.”
Though Fitzgerald was a late addition to the west team due to injuries, he does not lack in talent. Fitzgerald, 6’5”, 250 pounds, was awarded Honorable Mention for All-State, unanimous vote first team all-district, and plans to play football at the University of Texas.
“When you ask people who have played us, there is no doubt that they would see Andrew as the best player on the field when the defensive side is on,” said Gerry Stanford, head football coach for Marcus High School. “He’s the type of player that the opposing coach is going to have to know where he is, and make a game plan according to Andrew.”
Players selected are well-rounded individuals, not only are they distinguished athletes, but also have academic achievements and display exemplary moral characteristics.
The 5th annual Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl will be played in Carson, Calif., Jan. 3, 2016, at 8 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
