FORWARD OPERATING BASE ISKAN, Iraq — A peaceful demonstration in support of the government of Iraq was held in Jurf as Sakhr, Iraq, on April 3.

As many residents stood outside with flags and banners, the town mayor, Sheik Sabbah, stood in front of his community to tell the people they must unite and not forget that with peace comes progress.

There have been several visits to the area from GoI officials in an effort to establish a relationship so the government could aid residents in issues ranging from education to water and electricity. While challenges remain to be resolved, there has been much progress in the area.

"It was awesome to see the residents of Jurf, young and old, unite today to show their support for the government of Iraq as it works through a difficult time," said Capt. Eric Tisland, commander of Company A, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division. "They have turned their area around and are intent on being a part of Iraq's future as they continue to enjoy the peace and stability that they helped to establish and maintain for the past eight months."
