VENTURA, Calif. – Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center, Commanding Officer, Capt. Jay Mitchell and President of California State University Channel Islands, Richard R. Rush signed an Education Partnership Agreement between NAVFAC EXWC and CI following the Regional Defense Partnership 21st Century General Membership Meeting, at the Ventura County Government Center Dec. 1.
NAVFAC's only Warfare Center, EXWC and CI, the most recent addition to the 23 campus California State University system, entered this Education Partnership Agreement to aid in the educational experience of CI students by providing a mechanism by which the students can benefit from staff expertise, unique facilities and equipment related to academic disciplines in STEM, including Computer Science and Information Technology.
NAVFAC EXWC’s contributions to this partnership will encourage student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and may benefit the Department of Defense in terms of advance training of future employees and may benefit the country by encouraging interest in the sciences and engineering by young people at the beginning of their career.
This partnership is authorized by 10 U.S.C. §2194, for the establishment of Education Partnerships between Department of Defense laboratories and educational institutions in the United States for the purpose of encouraging and enhancing study in scientific disciplines at all levels of education.
