NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. – The newly renovated Nellis AFB Exchange shopping center held its grand opening Nov. 10.

The 221,800 square-foot shopping center experienced its first remodel in 13 years. It features updates to the main store as well as the food court and concessions.

Military shoppers can experience a whole new shopping experience inside the main Exchange store with many affordable name-brand 'concept shops' as well as a fully stocked “BE FIT” athletic wear section for men and women. Along the wall outside the main store is a large mural depicting local heroes, and the Wall of Honor salutes the installation’s history.

Along the concession mall is updated flooring, signage, as well as kiosks. The food court advertises new seating, tables and drink stations.

The grand opening ceremony’s opening remarks were made by 99th Air Base Wing commander Col. Richard Boutwell who spoke after the presentation of the colors by the Nellis Air Force Base Honor Guard.

“This is a great day for team Nellis and the NTTR,” said Boutwell. “Part of our mission in the 99th Air Base Wing is to improve support to our Airmen -- that’s Active Duty, Guard, Reserve, retirees and their families. You (the Army & Air Force Exchange Service) certainly do that. We could not do our mission because our people are our mission and you certainly support them. Really it is a privilege and honor to have you as mission partners.”

Boutwell also expressed his gratitude to all parties involved in the renovation of the Exchange.

Following Boutwell with closing remarks was the deputy director of AAFES, Mike Immler.

“It’s an honor to be here,” said Immler. “Without the partnership that we have with Nellis AFB this facility would not be like it is today. We were able to partner with the installation here. We had some needs and they came to the rescue with some hard-earned dollars, and we were able to get this place renovated and updated with their help.

“Colonel Boutwell talked about the community and it is a tribute to the community. This is an integrated opportunity and integrated project and we are just so proud to be a part of the Nellis family and Nellis community.”

Immler’s speech was followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony, cake and refreshments.

    The Nellis AFB Exchange’s operating hours are Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
