HORSHAM AIR GUARD STATION, Pa. – Fort Washington, Pennsylvania’s American Legion Post 10 collected and donated a bounty of Thanksgiving meals to the 111th Attack Wing’s Airman & Family Readiness Center here on Nov. 21 for distribution to needy regional military members and their families.

“The meals have already been designated for members here and Army Reservists at Fort Dix (New Jersey),” said Anna Richar, A&FR program manager for the 111th Attack Wing. “We can’t thank (the Legion members) enough for thinking of the serviceman first.”
And this isn’t the first time the American Legion has taken part in Thanksgiving donations.

“This is our fifth year collecting meals for the military, but the first time donating to the Horsham base,” said Navy veteran and veteran service officer with Post 10, Chris Dooley. “We collected 12 full meals and all the trimmings, while our auxiliary collected another 12.”

Aside from turkeys, there is another animal that Dooley provides to help service members – companion dogs to post-traumatic stress disorder veterans

“This year, I’ve transported an estimated 30 companion dogs to PTSD servicemen,” said Dooley.
Other Legion members are also committed to the cause of helping out service members in need.

“We started collecting the meals about 3-weeks ago,” said American Legion Post 10 Auxiliary President, Janis Navo. “Each of us are honored and obligated to supporting our military. We’re about to start our Christmas drive to fulfill wish lists for the USO.”
