FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Soldiers and families from the 1st Sustainment Command (Theater) bid farewell to Command Sgt. Maj. Nathaniel Bartee, Sr., Friday, as he relinquished his responsibility as 1st TSC command sergeant major to Command Sgt. Maj. Edward A. Bell Sr. at Dahl Physical Fitness Center.
During the change of responsibility ceremony, Maj. Gen. Paul C. Hurley Jr., commander, 1st TSC, praised Bartee and his accomplishments which included the ‘daunting task’ of drawing down forces in Afghanistan then refocusing the command’s efforts toward Iraq.
Bartee’s next assignment takes him to the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command at Fort Lee, Virginia, where he will serve as the command sergeant major. In his final remarks to the First Team, he praised the Soldiers and civilians for their professionalism, experience and resiliency.
“As I look back, I realize how much has transpired in such a short period of time and it is just hard to believe,” said Bartee, the Quitman, Georgia native. “The 1st TSC Soldiers demonstrate great leadership, teamwork and agility as they seamlessly continue operations in garrison and the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.”
No stranger to Fort Bragg or 1st TSC, Bell previously served with the command when it was still known as the 1st Corps Support Command.
After serving as the command sergeant major of 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, the Tarboro, North Carolina native is honored to be back home to take on the great responsibility ahead of him.
“Every Soldier is entitled to leadership and I feel fortunate to serve the great Soldiers of this command,” he said. “My purpose is to serve them, speak on their behalf, and most important, be an effective leader who produces positive results.”
During his career, which began in February 1987, Bell has filled many leadership positions ranging from squad leader to command sergeant major.
He has deployed in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom II, XI, XIII, and XIV.
Bell’s awards and decorations include Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster; Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters; Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster; Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters; Good Conduct Medal, eighth award; National Defense Service Medal; NCO Professional Development with numeral four; Overseas Service Ribbon; South West Asia Medal; Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait); Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia); NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korea Defense Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Australian Parachutist Badge; Royal Dutch Parachutist Badge; Drivers Badge; Master Parachutist Badge; and Drill Sergeant Badge.
Bell is married and has four children.
