BLUFFDALE, Utah -- More than 100 Airmen and family members from Hill Air Force Base participated in a flag-placing detail in preparation for Veterans Day at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Nov. 10, 2015.

The detail was organized by the Air Force Sergeants Association, Chapter 1163, as a way to pay tribute to those who have served. Beginning at sunrise and with snow falling, participants dutifully placed American flags beside every resting place on the grounds.

Master Sgt. Deangelo Lee was back for the third year in a row.

"I keep coming back because this puts everything in perspective," said Lee. "The service of veterans has paved the way for those of us who serve today."

Lee said he plans on coming back every year he's able.

Arnold Warner, grounds and buildings supervisor for the cemetery since 1994, talked about the cemetery's expansion over the years and noted that he appreciates the work done by the volunteers in preparing the grounds for Veterans Day.

"If it weren't for the volunteers, this probably wouldn't happen," said Warner.

Some Airmen brought their children to participate in the detail, giving them the chance to understand the importance of service. Chief Master Sgt. Carmelo Vega Martinez brought his daughter Frances.

"I got her out of school and told her she was coming to volunteer with me today. I figured this would be a good way for her to learn what [Veterans Day] is all about," said Vega Martinez.

After two hours, the detail departed having placed 5,646 flags in honor of our nation's veterans.
