ARLINGTON, Texas – The crowd cheers as the lights go down and the band took to the stage here at AT&T Stadium, Nov. 8.

Once the rock 'n' roll ensemble of the 1st Cavalry Division Band, known as the “Warriors,” finished their set, they made their way to the changing room to prepare to open the Sunday night game featuring the Dallas Cowboys hosting the Philadelphia Eagles.

After changing from the Army Combat Uniform to the Army Service Uniform, the band made their way to the field and awaited their cue.

For one band member, playing a rock 'n' roll show, the national anthem and playing in the halftime show for a National Football League game, made for a special day.

Spc. David Jackson, a trombone player and vocalist for the 1st Cav. Div. Band, spent his 38th birthday playing music - a day he said he will never forget.

“There are gigs, and then there are life events, and this is a life event,” said Jackson, a Las Vegas native.

AT&T Stadium has 80,000 seats for fans with room for another 25,000 fans to stand. On the night of the game, 91,287 people were in attendance.

“I’ve played for big crowds in Vegas, but this takes the cake,” said Jackson.

Jackson spent 19 years as a musician, playing in many different orchestras throughout Vegas.

“I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan,” said Jackson. “So going to the Cowboys’ stadium to play on my birthday to play… it’s unbelievable.”

The band plays different events s around the local area and Texas.

“I enjoy playing music, traveling, and representing the Army and the U.S.,” said Staff Sgt. Daniel Madsen, Jackson’s supervisor and a percussionist with the 1st Cav. Div. Band.

Madsen said that it’s events like this that help the Army maintain its relationship with the American public.

Both before and after the band played, they were bombarded with people wanting to shake hands and thank them for their service while taking photos with them.

“Playing at the Dallas Cowboys game; what bigger than that?” said Madsen.
