    Nellis Air Force Base

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. – The 99th Medical Operations Squadron Allergy and Immunizations Clinic is offering the flu vaccine at the Mike O’Callaghan Federal Medical Center here.

Although the flu vaccine is available to dependents and retirees, receiving the vaccine is mandatory for all active duty personnel.

The flu line is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Developmental Pediatrics waiting room, which is located on the first floor of the MOFMC next to internal medicine.

“Yearly flu vaccines are recommended in order to protect the individual against the flu viruses that are most likely to circulate each season,” said Maj. Karla Adams, 99th MDOS Allergy and Immunizations Clinic chief. “Without the vaccine, an individual may be at risk of not only getting influenza but also spreading to others.”

By getting the flu vaccine, Airmen are less likely to get influenza and it helps prevent the virus from spreading to others.

“Influenza is a highly-contagious disease that can be debilitating. It has serious complications, such as pneumonia, and can affect any individual - including healthy Airmen,” said Adams. “Getting the vaccine means that our Airmen will have less time away from work and can continue to complete our mission.”

Getting the flu vaccine as early as possible helps ensure individuals get the best protection against outbreaks of influenza.

The clinic offers the mist or the shot for the vaccine.

“We will screen for the flu mist and, if there are any contraindications, we will administer the shot,” said Staff Sgt. Crystal Whiterock, 99th MDOS Allergy and Immunizations Clinic technician.
