KINGS BAY, Ga. – A time-honored change of command ceremony was held at the WWII Pavilion for Naval Submarine Support Command (NSSC) at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay on Nov. 6.
Cmdr. Charles Cohn, commanding officer of NSSC, was relieved by Cmdr. Jeffrey Nesheim.
The ceremony's guest speaker, Commander Submarine Group 10 Rear Adm. Randy Crites, praised Cohn for his exceptional performance while in command of NSSC.
"Congratulations Chuck on a job very well done, you and your team should be very proud of what you have accomplished together," said Crites.
Cohn, a native of Houston, said he is proud of having had the opportunity to be in command at NSSC and working with a fantastic team of Sailors and civilians.
"I would like to personally thank the Sailors and civilians at NSSC for everything they have done, which resulted in the unprecedented success of all the Squadron 16 and 20 boats," said Cohn. “I know I can always rely on everyone at NSSC, and that’s really helped me out over the last couple of years."
During the ceremony, Cohn received a Meritorious Service Medal for his performance as the commanding officer of NSSC from October 2013 to November 2015.
As Nesheim, a native Viborg, South Dakota, assumed command of NSSC, he thanked Cohn for turning over a great command and an even greater crew.
"I’ve been in Kings Bay for a few years now, and I’ve personally witnessed the outstanding performance done by the Sailors and civilians at NSSC, they keep Kings Bay going," said Nesheim.”
The mission of NSSC is to provide quality operational support for Kings Bay homeported submarines, their crews, families, and the staffs of Submarine Squadron 16 and Submarine Squadron 20 in the areas of operations, material, weapons, communications, supply, medical, legal and religious programs.
