KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany - What do you do if your weapon jams in combat?
If you are trained in Modern Army Combatives, you keep fighting hand-to-hand.
Modern Army Combatives is a fighting style similar to jujitsu taught throughout the Army.
This week, Modern Army Combatives’ Level 1 instructors from the 7th Mission Support Command certified Soldiers and Airmen from around the Kaiserslautern Military Community during the Modern Army Combatives Level 1 certification course Nov. 2-6, 2015.
"It is pretty fun, so far,” said Air Force Staff Sgt. Anthony Quijada a directory services technician from the 83rd Network Operations Squadron, Detachment 4, Air Force Space Command. “I wanted to do something different than work on computers every day. I was up for a challenge."
Quijada was one of more than a dozen students who took part in the five-day course.
"They are doing good," said Staff Sgt. Katie L. Kaseman, the 7th MSC’s assistant instructor and who is also a certified Modern Army Combatives Master Trainer. "This group's biggest challenge was adapting to new body movements."
The students are learning tactical jujitsu they could use on the battlefield if their weapon malfunctions, and they also can go back to their units and teach level one combatives for physical training, she added.
