FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. - Many people view the Health Promotions Office, previously known as the Health and Wellness Center, as a place they go when they fail a fitness assessment; but what they may not know is the HPO offers many different types of classes for all military members and their families, many of which are preventative in nature.

Better Body Better Life is one of the many classes offered at the HPO. It's a four-week course designed to work with individuals who struggle with their abdominal circumference.

"We talk about lifestyle, behavior changes and getting enough sleep," said Will Saultes, 92nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron health promotion manager. "We talk about all of those things from a fitness level."

For people who are interested in the fitness aspect, such as improving their run time, the HPO offers a quarterly running clinic that focuses on how to safely decrease run time.

"One of the big things we offer that people don't know about is the HPO will go out to individual units and help conduct wellness assessments," said Saultes. "If a unit as a whole needs help, we will meet and work with them on the areas they need to focus on."

Along with fitness classes, the HPO also offers the Bod Pod, a machine which accurately measures a person's body fat and lean muscle mass.

Alyson Kresser, 92nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron HPO registered dietitian, teaches monthly healthy cooking classes and provides one-on-one counseling.

The HPO is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information on all the classes offered, call (509) 247-5590.
