BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (November 5, 2015) – Radio Parwan located in Bagram hosted Hajji Ustad Zalmy Shaeed, the Director of Education for the province of Parwan, as their guest on the afternoon radio show.

In a country where few homes outside of major cities have modern television sets or high speed computers, radio remains as the key means of connecting the people and the government across Afghanistan.

Hajji Shaeed coordinated with the radio station to host a phone town hall with the people of Parwan. He used the opportunity to discuss the importance of education, schools, and jobs to the future of Afghanistan.

One of the key points of his message was the need for the people of Afghanistan to prepare for the future when there may be less financial aid and assistance from Afghanistan’s coalition partners. “It is now up to the people of Afghanistan to take the steps needed to secure their own future and education is the most crucial piece to success,” said Shaeed.

Additionally, Shaeed discussed an upcoming program aimed at increasing interest in education and nationalism within Pawan. The program is designed to allow the children within the districts and province to compete in math competitions and essay writing. The top winners will receive formal recognition at a ceremony hosted by the Governor as well as a brand new bicycle.

“Today we had more callers than the thirty minutes of time on air could handle, next time, God willing, we will have an hour and other officials,” said Shaeed.
He remains hopeful that the people will respond and support education in his province.
