The 2015 Combined Federal Campaign is coming to a close at Ellsworth AFB.
The CFC is designed to provide servicemembers and Department of Defense civilians an opportunity to contribute to their choice of approved local and national charities during a designated period of time.
“We encouraged everyone who donated to choose local organizations and charities that affect the base,” said Capt. Bobby Erskine, 28th Logistics Readiness Squadron materiel management flight commander.
“There are 43 local charities to choose from. Some that directly affect the base are the Airman and Family Readiness Center, the Youth Center and Operation Warmheart.”
The CFC accepts donations from federal employees beginning in September and ending in December, with each region fundraising in various ways.
Ellsworth recently had a chili cook-off, which helped raise more than $300, bringing the current amount raised to nearly $60,000.
“It is great seeing so many people come together for a cause that is greater than them,” Erskine said. “It gives you a good feeling knowing you helped someone out.”
Nationally, the CFC raises millions of dollars each year for charities across the country.
“Even if you only give a dollar and don’t think it will make a difference, it will,” Erskine said. “One dollar can help pay for food, or cut the cost of transportation. Every little bit helps.”
Those interested in donating through the CFC should contact their unit representative as soon as possible.
