WACO, Texas - Baylor University recognized a “Wagonmaster” Soldier and her family during the Baylor Bears football game against the West Virginia Mountaineers at McLane Stadium here Saturday.

Pfc. Jessica Thomeczek, 602nd Support Maintenance Company, 553rd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade, 1st Cav. Div., and her family attended the game and were taken down onto the sideline to enjoy a closer view.

During a break in the second quarter, Thomeczek and her Family were escorted onto the field and stood in front of thousands of fans who performed a standing ovation for her service.

“Being out on the field with thousands of people clapping and showing their support was an overwhelming feeling,” said Thomeczek, a San Antonio native. “After being on the field, many people walked up to my Family and shook our hands.”

Thomeczek was selected by her company commander to be recognized for her contribution to the unit by servicing and repairing more than 5,000 pieces of equipment, ranging from night vision devices, radio equipment and other electronic equipment.

Thomeczek is a computer detections systems repairer specialist and a senior generator mechanic who has served in the Army for approximately two years, with ten months spent overseas in Korea.

“Being able to see the game in person was amazing,” she said. “I didn't miss a thing that happened, verse if I were to see it on television. It was just a better experience and a lot more fun, and it’s a great way to spend time with the family.”

Baylor wants to show their support not only to the Soldiers who are deploying, but to their Families as well. During the rest of their home games, Baylor will continue this tradition by taking the families of deployed Soldiers onto the field and honoring them.
