CAPE MAY, N.J. - We have reached the end of our Week in the Life series, and I can’t think of a better way to top off this week other than with pictures from today’s graduation ceremony.
The recruits of Sierra 191 have reached the end of their training after eight long weeks. They will now head to the fleet where they will carry with them a desire to serve, a legacy to uphold and a sense of pride and accomplishment that only a small percentage of the American public will ever know. As you could probably imagine, a sense of pride flows pretty thick around here on Friday. You can see it on the faces of the family and friends who have come to celebrate their recruits as well as the recruits themselves who, even though you wouldn’t be able to see it while they are in formation, are bursting with excitement.
Our mission is complete.
Well, it is complete until this afternoon when we introduce our forming company that arrived on Tuesday to their company commanders and the process starts all over again.
This weekend will prove to be one of those “emotional” events that recruits will not forget. If asked, I would imagine that arriving on the bus, being picked up by their company commanders, earning their colors and graduation would rank high as things “you won’t forget” as a recruit.
I hope that this Week in the Life series provided you with a good, “inside” look at what happens at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey, on a day-to-day basis. As you can tell, it is pretty non-stop around here, which is just the way we like it.
Congratulations to Sierra 191 for their accomplishment and welcome to the fleet! For those on their way here ... come ready.
For all of you ... thank you for coming along this week.
Semper Paratus!
