KABUL, Afghanistan – Cavalry soldiers from Charlie Troop "Crazy Horse," 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment (Airborne), moved to the newly-built Forward Operating Base Goshta, Feb. 28. Soldiers from the 76th Horizontal Engineer Battalion have been working around the clock, building the remote FOB since early January.
More than $750,000 has already been invested in the construction of the FOB, not to mention the millions of dollars of military equipment already on the ground.
The FOB is located near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Nangarhar province. Goshta District is a known smuggling route between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The majority of local citizens have seen little, if any, Coalition forces.
"Alpha Company, 173rd Special Troop Battalion, prepared the earth for construction," explained Capt. Nicholas R. Talbot, Crazy Horse commander. "Eventually there's going to be a company of Afghan national army, and 50 Afghan security guards who are going to help us guard all of the walls of the FOB."
Charlie Troop is working on a daily basis with Afghan border patrol, Afghan national police and the Afghan national army on and off FOB Goshta. The soldiers and policemen patrol are helping keep a remote part of Afghanistan safe together.
