U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Matt Burkett embodies the Corps of Engineers motto Building Strong and will ensure the success of the district support team liaison position within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division.

In an effort to better improve vertical team communications between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Great Lakes and Ohio River Division and its districts, USACE Buffalo District Project Manager Matthew Burkett will lead the first of its kind detail as the district support team liaison at division.

“This is a very important position in facilitating vertical team alignment, which is a key enabler to delivering our products and services.” said David Romano, USACE Buffalo District deputy district engineer for planning, programs and project management.

The district support team liaison detail is a rotating position within the division. Over the next few years, each of the seven districts under the division will have the opportunity to detail a person to the four month assignment.

“Given Matt’s diverse background and experience within USACE, he will certainly be a regional advantage for the division,” said Romano. “I look forward to watching Matt pave the way for future candidates.”

Matt brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position and region. Before joining the Corps of Engineer’s team, Matt was a U.S. Army military police officer at Ft. Carson, Colorado. Since joining USACE in 2008, he has held multiple positions with the Buffalo District to include cost estimator, plan formulator, and project manager. Rounding off his experience in both Civil Works and Military Programs, he has served on the Regional Quality Management Team.

“Of all my experiences so far, the most demanding but rewarding time I have spent with USACE was when I was serving as project manager in Afghanistan with the USACE Trans-Atlantic Division,” said Burkett. “It was in Afghanistan where I was challenged to pull from all my training, U.S. Army and USACE, to ensure my team members stayed safe and that my projects were successfully executed. It is with this same drive and passion that I plan to approach this new position.”

Matt Burkett embodies the USACE motto Building Strong and will ensure the success of the district support team liaison position.
